The Origins
Before going beyond reality
In the early years of my artistic research, my painting grew out of the observation of reality. Rome, its villages, interiors, architecture and places of memory became the subjects through which I began to develop my first pictorial language.
In these works, I was still searching for a predominantly figurative representation, moving from landscapes to interiors and experimenting with different techniques, from more descriptive painting to the use of the palette knife.
Looking back at these works today, I recognise certain elements that have never truly left me: architecture, the memory of places and the desire to tell something that goes beyond what can simply be seen.

Foro romano
2008 · Oil on canvas · 40 × 50 cm
Private collection
Rome is one of the subjects that accompanied the early years of my painting. In this work, my main aim was to capture the character of the place, working with perspective, light and depth.
In cucina · Il sogno
2005 · Oil on canvas · 24 × 30 cm / 35 × 45 cm
Private collections
Two works from 2005, among my earliest paintings. Very different subjects, created during a period in which I was freely experimenting with themes and atmospheres, still searching for a personal direction.
Veduta di Roma dal Vittoriano
2010 · Oil on canvas · 50 × 70 cm
Private collection — Rome
Rome seen from above, the gaze travelling across rooftops, domes and monuments. In these early landscapes, I was still seeking to preserve the recognisability of the place, but I was already beginning to be drawn above all to the atmosphere and the light of the city.
Il Canopo – Villa Adriana
2010 · Oil on canvas · 100 × 80 cm
Private collection — Tirana
The Canopus at Hadrian’s Villa is one of the places that best suited my painting in those years: architecture, water, vegetation and reflections brought together within the same scene. One of the large-scale works in which I was seeking a more accomplished representation, yet still strongly focused on atmosphere.
Rapide · Il borgo
2010 · Oil on canvas, palette knife · 30 × 40 cm / 50 × 70 cm
Private collections
Two landscapes painted entirely with a palette knife, experimenting with a more immediate and material approach to painting. Forms, light and depth emerge directly from colour and gesture..
San Polo dei Cavalieri
The village of memory.
2010 · Oil on canvas · 30 × 80 cm
Private collection — San Polo dei Cavalieri (Rome)
A panoramic view of the village, composed in a horizontal format to follow its profile and its relationship with the surrounding landscape. San Polo was not only a subject to paint, but a place connected to my history and memories.
Il venditore di polli · Vena Caprara
2010 · Oil on canvas · 35 × 50 cm / 18 × 24 cm
Private collections
Il venditore di polli: A tribute to Ettore Roesler Franz and to one of his views of San Polo dei Cavalieri. I came across this image on a postcard in my collection devoted to his works depicting Rome and Lazio at the end of the nineteenth century, and I wanted to reinterpret it through my own painting..
Vena Caprara: A view of San Polo dei Cavalieri connected to places of memory. In these small works, landscape is no longer simply something to represent, but gradually becomes part of a personal narrative.
